Jo Cox Way & Run for Jo

Jo Cox Way & Run for Jo

On Sunday 30 July, Living Bankside through More In Common Borough and Bankside (a collective of people supported by Living Bankside) will host the finale of the Jo Cox Way, a four day charity bike ride from Yorkshire to London.

Connecting Batley and Spen in Yorkshire to Bankside in London.

The bike ride connects and brings together people of all backgrounds; ethnicities, ages, abillities, genders, sexuality, faiths and those of no particular faith.

Earlier in the day, in partnership with GoodGym, we will host the Run for Jo, a 5km family friendly fun run in and around Bankside.

Both events are inspired by the life and legacy of the late Jo Cox MP.

Running of events:

  • The run will start from 12:15.

  • There will be a medal presentation ceremony from 13:00 - 13:30.

  • Everything about the run will be wrapped up by 13:30, but we encourage runners to stay and greet the arrival of the 80+ group of cyclists who will be completing the Jo Cox Way at 14:00.

Kim Leadbeater, sister of Jo Cox and MP for Batley and Spen, said: “Seven years since Jo’s murder, it is heart-warming that so many events continue to take place as part of her legacy. I encourage everyone to get involved with the Run For Jo, or by running virtually wherever you are in the world. Sign up now and I hope to see you on Sunday, 30 July.”

Amir Eden, Executive Chairman of Living Bankside. looking forward to the events said:

" It is a great pleausre to once again host the finale of the Jo Cox Way and to organise a Run for Jo. We look forward to celebrating the things we have in common and continuing Jo Cox's legacy."

Speaking about the events, Joseph Bonner, Chair of More in Common Borough and Bankside said: “We are very honoured to be part of these events, in memory of Jo Cox. She was killed doing her job, a job she loved, representing the people in the area where she grew up and that is something we must never forget. Just like Jo, we believe that with communities coming together, we can help make the world a better place."

Sam Lefevre from Good Gym - Co-organiser of the Run for Jo said:

"What a great opportunity for GoodGym to get involved with Living Bankside and More in Common for this fantastic event that shares our values. We will honour Jo's legacy by uniting in this run for a world where compassion knows no boundaries. Together, we have more in common than that which divides us. Let every footprint in this run echo with resilience, love, and the unyielding belief that a better future is within our grasp. Let us run with purpose, run with heart, run for good, but ultimately, let us run for Jo."

For the runners, the 5k course:

The Run For Jo will start and finish in O'Meara Street. The route will be down O'Meara Street, take a right on Union Street, left on Southwark Bridge Road, left on Marshalsea, left on Borough High Street, left on Southwark Street and a final left on to O'Meara Street. After 4 circuits/laps, that will equate to 5km.
