According to significant evidence, many of our essential Workers, such as our nurses, doctors, teachers, police officers and fire-fighters continue to find it increasingly difficult to live in London, making it unviable to work in a London hospital, school or police station. This trend is contributing to a significant decrease in London’s essential workers, there is also a serious issue around the quality of life, if such workers are forced to live out of London.
In 2017 we ran a short campaign for the delivery of homes for our essential workers in the midst of the controversy surrounding the freeze on pay for essential workers. Unfortunately since then living standards have not drastically improved for our essential workers. We must change this together!
This is not the first time that so much is owed by so many to so few, nor will it be the last. Essential workers have stood between us and what could have been the greatest mass tragedy we have faced in generations. Let’s repay them!
The campaign calls on the Government, Private sector, Local councils and the third sector to commit to working together to deliver homes at social rent and better pay - to thank our heroic essential workers who’ve kept Britain going during the coronavirus outbreak.
Public & private land near hospitals, schools, police stations etc should be prioritised for delivering homes at social rent for our essential workers.
